The IONIS Institute of Technology (I2T) is a collegiate institute of technology that brings together four independent Grandes Écoles of engineering: EPITA School of Computer Sciences, ESME School of Sustainable Engineering, IPSA School of Aerospace Engineering, and SupBiotech School of Biotechnology. With complementary educational and research offerings, these four institutions cover a broad spectrum of skills and specialties that address the major challenges faced by businesses and society in the 21st century.

IONIS TECH develops and supports the academic research strategies of the Schools by offering a transversal, multidisciplinary framework that unites their large community of researchers. The strength of this community is reflected both in the professional training programs for engineers and experts delivered by the Schools, and in their collective ability to produce multidisciplinary research initiatives leading to industrial innovations, supported by patent filings and technology transfers. IONIS TECH and its Schools provide a stimulating work environment rich in opportunities for faculty members who are entrepreneurial, open to pedagogical innovation, attentive to the expectations of industry, and committed to developing a balanced excellence between fundamental sciences, technologies, and their applications in industry, services, and society.

The shared identity of the Schools, carried by IONIS TECH, is expressed through a triple value proposition:

  • Training highly qualified engineers, experts, and scientists who act as responsible contributors to business competitiveness and to the major transformations experienced by societies as they progress toward sustainable prosperity — particularly by integrating openness to and awareness of research within the Schools’ educational programs;
  • Producing high-quality research and intellectual contributions that enrich science, scientific culture, and technology within society, while supporting the transfer of applications and innovations from their laboratories to industry and services;
  • Offering societal engagement through the scientific dissemination of our perspectives on the sustainable development of technological and economic models, aligned with the challenges of preserving planetary resources.

In keeping with the culture of the Grandes Écoles, IONIS TECH promotes a research approach that, starting from concrete problems raised by companies, delivers both:

  • innovations that can be directly leveraged to create economic and social value, and
  • scientific contributions whose fundamental nature is legitimately recognized by the academic community and its peers.

This “per ascensum” approach (from fieldwork to publication) complements the “per descensum,” or “top‑down,” method generally followed in a university context (from fundamental research toward applied research).

IONIS Tech Research Labs

Within IONIS TECH, and in order to provide faculty members with the structure and resources necessary to carry out their missions, teaching‑research staff are organized as follows:

  • At the level of each School: into disciplinary teams assembled into laboratories that follow the general principles of university organization. This structure ensures clear visibility of the scientific specialties represented by each School and facilitates their integration and partnerships within the academic ecosystem.

  • At the scale of IONIS TECH: into an agile and reconfigurable umbrella organization, the IONIS TECH Research Labs, which coordinates the disciplinary building blocks carried by the Schools’ laboratories. Its purpose is to project a transversal and critical-mass expertise onto scientific and technological challenges that are primarily driven by industry. Three multidisciplinary domains have been identified: Digital Society, Cell to Health, and Tech for Sustainability.
