In a world shaped by hyper‑digitalization, artificial intelligence, human augmentation, and renewed space exploration, fundamental questions about meaning and humanity’s place in the universe are emerging with new urgency. As technologies increasingly mediate how we perceive, understand, and transform reality, they challenge traditional boundaries between human and machine, Earth and cosmos, knowledge and experience. IONIS Studio is an artist residency supported by the IONIS Institute of Technology (I2T), dedicated to artistic creation at the intersection of art, science, and engineering.
Each year, through an open call for projects, IONIS Studio hosts an artist and provides technological patronage by granting access to advanced research facilities, workshops, and the expertise of research engineers and technical staff. The residency offers an exceptional environment for experimentation, prototyping, and the exploration of new artistic media and production processes.
Respect for artistic independence lies at the heart of the program, while fostering meaningful dialogue between artistic creation and contemporary technologies. In return, the resident artist acknowledges IONIS Studio as a patron and contributes to its cultural and institutional visibility.
At the end of the residency, the artist may donate an artwork to I2T, contributing to a shared artistic and scientific heritage. The residency may also lead to future collaborations, separate from the patronage framework, to support the production of new works. IONIS Studio is part of I2T’s vision to develop a contemporary creation hub where engineering becomes an artistic medium and art helps to question and transform the technologies of our time.
The IONIS Institute of Technology (I²T) is a shared technological and innovation platform bringing together four leading engineering schools: EPITA, specializing in computer science, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity; IPSA, dedicated to aerospace engineering and space technologies; SupBiotech, focused on biotechnology and the life sciences; and ESME, a generalist engineering school with strong expertise in robotics, digital systems, and advanced technologies. I²T provides a common space for interdisciplinary collaboration, research, experimentation, and creative exploration at the frontier of art, entrepreneurship and technology.
