WaveCare
AI for Breast Cancer Detection Using Microwave Imaging
The WaveCare project aims to enhance breast cancer screening by combining microwave imaging—a non-ionizing, low-cost technology—with artificial intelligence algorithms. This approach enables earlier and more personalized detection, localization, and characterization of breast tumors. The project leverages both supervised and deep learning techniques, trained on experimental data from breast phantoms. It explores both qualitative imaging (tumor shape and position) and quantitative imaging (mapping dielectric properties). In collaboration with SogetiLabs and the University of Manitoba, WaveCare paves the way for a new biomedical imaging modality that is safer and more effective than conventional methods.
