Localization and Navigation, GNSS Systems, Modulation and Demodulation

Accuracy and reliability in positioning are of critical importance in many modern applications. In general, Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) are the preferred positioning technology. However, these systems were originally designed to operate under open-sky conditions, and their performance significantly degrades in non-nominal environments. The objective of this research is to provide a statistical signal processing approach for the design of robust navigation systems. Performance bounds on the mean squared error (such as the Cramér-Rao Bound – CRB) under challenging propagation conditions can be interpreted within the framework of misspecified observation models: • Proposal, analysis, and validation of robust maximum likelihood (ML) estimators for misspecified models under non-nominal conditions. Derivation of the associated bound (Misspecified Cramér-Rao Bound – MCRB) • Investigation of novel algorithms for high-precision positioning.
