Internal Regulations – I2T Platform
1. Purpose and Scope
The i2T platform includes:
A Fab Lab space, dedicated to rapid prototyping: 3D printing (FDM / SLA), electronics and PCB fabrication, electronic textiles, smart materials, embroidery machines, and light digital fabrication.
A Workshop area, dedicated to working with wood, metals, and other materials, including high‑risk equipment: large‑format CNC machines, laser cutters, MIG/TIG welding stations, stationary and portable power tools.
These regulations define the internal operational framework applicable to all users.
They aim to ensure:
- The safety of individuals
- The protection of property and equipment
- Access control and authorization management
- Compliance with applicable safety rules
They do not replace current legal and regulatory obligations (fire safety, gas storage, flammable products, ventilation, electrical compliance, etc.), nor manufacturer instructions and technical sheets displayed on site.
Reading, accepting, and signing these regulations is required to obtain access authorization to the i2T spaces.
Any breach may result in restricted or suspended access rights.
2. Access, Supervision and Authorizations
2.1 Access Conditions
Access is subject to:
- Registration and identification with the i2T team
- Participation in a safety induction session
- Attribution of an individual skills passport
- Specific validation for certain machines
Opening hours posted at the entrance are defined by the i2T team.
Presence outside authorized time slots is prohibited unless expressly permitted.
2.2 Supervision
- No free access without organizational supervision defined by i2T
- Solo work on dangerous machines is prohibited unless expressly authorized by an Expert‑level user
- Certain high‑risk equipment requires mandatory supervision, especially during first uses
- The i2T team may refuse, limit, or suspend access at any time if safety conditions are not met
3. Skills Passport
The use of spaces and equipment is governed by an individual skills passport.
3.1 Attribution
Levels are granted, limited, refused, or revoked at the sole discretion of i2T staff, based on:
- Completed training
- Demonstrated skills
- Observed behavior
- Pedagogical needs
The passport evolves over time.
3.2 Authorization Levels
Initiation Level
Use within a pedagogical context (courses, labs, supervised projects), under supervision defined by i2T.
Autonomous Level
Use outside the academic framework (personal, associative, research projects), under organizational supervision.
The user is able to prepare, operate, and restore the equipment while strictly following safety rules.
Expert Level (for faculty)
Use without direct supervision.
Ability to supervise other users and manage complex or high‑risk operations.
4. General Safety Principles
The safety of individuals is the top priority.
Before any use, the user must:
- Check the visible condition of equipment (guards, cables, emergency stops, extraction)
- Read posted instructions
- Wear the required PPE
- Ensure they hold the correct authorization level
During use:
- Remain present and vigilant
- Keep the area clear
- Never bypass a safety device
4.1 Mandatory Reporting
The following must be reported immediately:
- Any malfunction or anomaly
- Any damaged PPE or collective protection system
- Any incident or damage, even accidental
- Any behavior that could cause an accident
- Any situation posing a risk to a person
5. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Depending on the activity:
- Safety glasses
- Closed shoes (safety shoes recommended in the workshop)
- Hearing protection when required
- Appropriate mask or respirator
- Appropriate gloves (forbidden on rotating machines)
- Welding‑specific equipment (leather gloves, jacket, mask)
- Hair tied back
- Dangling jewelry and loose clothing prohibited
Any defective PPE must be reported.
First‑aid kits are available from workshop and Fab Lab supervisors.
Questions requiring clarification:
What products are used?
In case of an accident, what equipment is available?
6. Machine Usage Rules
Equipment must be used:
- According to manufacturer specifications
- Following i2T technical sheets displayed near the equipment
- Within the limits of the user’s authorization level
It is prohibited to:
- Modify system settings without authorization
- Use unapproved materials
- Remove equipment or materials from the premises without written consent
After use:
- Complete cleaning of the workstation
- Proper storage of tools and products
- Disposal of waste via appropriate channels
- Logging usage when required
